Abstract COVID – 19 (Eng.
Abstract (english) COVID – 19 as emerging infectious disease became pandemic in 2020. Most countries in the World implemented emergency interventions which is unprecedent in recent history. This research highlights epidemiological data in 7 countries from January to April 2020. Main focus of the research was comparation of selected data between certain countries; total confirmed new cases, total confirmed cases, total new deaths, total deaths, total population, total population (+65), death rate, dates of first implemented public health measures, GNI per capita, number of recovered patients, number of people tested. Also imperative was to distinguish pros and cons of implemented public health emergency interventions as potential source of information for better understanding of challenges that public health may encounter in the future. Given data confirms efficacy of public health measures in preventing the spread of SARS – CoV – 2 virus. China was the most successful country despite being the source of infection of all the countries mentioned. Croatia and Slovenia were also successful in terms of implementing correct public health measures. United States of America, United Kingdom, Italy and Sweden had poor results in given time frame. They had; highest death rate, confirmed correlation between total confirmed new cases and total new deaths, and smallest average number of tests per confirmed case. Strict and fast implementation of public health measures at the beginning of the spread of infectious disease is a key element including; socially sensitive health care system with specialised public health workers and public trust.
