The sea represents the source of the health, economy and national security of every state surrounded by it. More recently, the sea is burdened by the growing traffic of ships that are very important for the development of the world economy and the interconnection of countries. Today, when ecology and environmental protection are a very topical issue, the ship is placed in the center of interest because it is labeled as a source of many pollution and represents a major threat to sea pollution. Therefore, measures and activities need to be developed in order to affirm the marine ecological policy and to encourage shipping to comply with laws and conventions aimed at protecting the sea. Recently, many maritime companies have started to respond to environmental challenges by embracing Green Shipping Practices (GSPs). These practices require the introduction of environment-friendly equipment and facilities by shipowners, and by other supply chain players. The implementation of successful green shipping practices not only requires the operational integration of green attitudes/technologies among supply chain players, but also the strategic coordination among them.
